Pigs, snorkelling and the sun going down over the islands

The afternoon Pig Island trip: snorkel the Koh Tan reef, spend the late afternoon with the pigs on Koh Madsum, then cross back towards Koh Samui as the sun sets, finishing with a Thai dinner at a beach restaurant. Hotel pickup is between 13:00 and 14:30 and you are home around 19:30.

Late afternoon is when the light on Koh Madsum turns golden, the beach is quieter after the morning boats, and the heat eases. The boat leaves the islands at about 17:45, so on clear evenings you watch the sun drop behind the southern islands on the way back.

It suits couples, late risers and anyone who wants to fill a morning with something else. Sunsets depend on the clouds: from October to December, when Koh Samui gets most of its rain, check the weather by month before you book.

  • Golden-hour light on Pig Island for the best photos of the trip

Questions about this trip

Is a sunset guaranteed?

No. Clouds can hide the sun, especially from October to December. The trip still runs if the sea is safe, and the islands are beautiful in any evening light.

What time do we get back?

Most guests are back at their hotel around 19:30. Hotels far from the south coast may be a little later.

Is the island fee included?

Yes, the Koh Madsum fee is included in the sunset tour price.

Do we snorkel before sunset?

Yes. The snorkel stop at Koh Tan comes first, in the afternoon light, then the beach time on Koh Madsum.

What should I bring for the evening?

A light layer for the ride home, swimwear, a towel, and a dry bag for your phone. Insect repellent helps at dinner.

Planning tip: Pair this with a morning at Ang Thong or a beach day: the sunset tour leaves your morning free. Ang Thong closes every year from 1 November to 15 December.
